Abstract
Este artículo sostiene que una teoría contemporánea de conservación arquitectónica crítica debería estar basada en las tradiciones teóricas de G. W. F. Hegel y Martin Heidegger, que mantenían la calidad histórica del Ser, junto a la crítica de estas tradiciones hecha por Walter Benjamin. Estas tradiciones certifican la alteridad de la historia. La historia funciona fuera de nuestra capacidad de conceptualizarla, pero impone límites y permite posibilidades para concertar el pensamiento y la acción. La historia no debería ser entendida como homogénea y continua, sino comprendiendo momentos y sucesos alegóricos —restos e incidentes que deben ser constantemente interpretados y realizados, y que pueden, por lo tanto, ser usados para construir futuros alternativos de pasados alternativos—.
