Abstract
El arquitecto, diseñador y artista Damon Rich es Diseñador Urbano de la Ciudad de Newark (NJ), donde lidera proyectos de diseño con actores públicos y privados para mejorar espacios urbanos. En 1997, Rich fundó el Centro de Pedagogía Urbana (CUP, por sus siglas en inglés), una organización sin fines de lucro que utiliza el diseño para aumentar el impacto de la participación ciudadana en el desarrollo de comunidades y la planificación urbana. Rich trabaja donde se intersectan comunicación, diseño y política. Aquí revisa algunas claves de su quehacer: la relación entre sistemas de representación y estrategias de comunicación política, la posición del diseñador como traductor entre agentes sociales y el conflicto entre participación ciudadana y estructuras de poder.
