Abstract
The short film Strata Incognita is part of ‘Foodscapes’ (Spanish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2023) and addresses the complex relation between humanity and soils, exploring their biological, chemical, ecological, political and cultural aspects. The film seeks to convey this research through an itinerant cinematography that travels through a series of paradigmatic scenarios of the Spanish agro-geography. Each location is conceived as an ’allegoric scenography’ from which to build a critical view around the myths that articulate our hyper-extractivist relation with soils. Ultimately, Strata Incognita highlights the importance of soil as a living archive of human histories y and futures, and explores how our actions today have a significant impact on this vital resource.
