Abstract
El edificio “Casa de las Hermanitas Pobres” de calle Carmen es uno de los íconos que reflejan la transición tecnológica en Chile hacia lo que conocemos hoy como arquitectura moderna. Sus fachadas de estilo esconden uno de los mayores tesoros arquitectónicos nacionales: las primeras losas de hormigón armado. El impacto de esta tecnología en la industria de la construcción a nivel mundial y local fue inmenso, cambiando por completo la arquitectura del siglo XX. La entonces exitosa adaptación de una tecnología foránea a la realidad latinoamericana nos ayuda hoy a reflexionar acerca de cómo enfrentar los acelerados cambios tecnológicos de nuestro tiempo y cómo adaptar influencias internacionales a nuestra realidad constructiva en Chile.
