About the cultural success of the iconic building and the disciplinar resistance

Contenido principal del artículo

Resumen

Iconic buildings are irresistible for the mass architectural culture, but the intellectuality almost always abhors them. The author of this article makes a summary review of some of the historic background that marks the relationship between architecture and image, in order to establish the origin of the distrust of these disciplinary groups towards it. He points out the importance of perspective in architects' project concerns and the ideological use of architectural photography at the beginning of the 20th century, when it was used to spread the principles of the modern movement. Finally, he analyses the impact of the extravagant image on a society dominated by mass media and makes a call to distrust architectural photography because the images it produces are loaded with ideological messages.
