Sobre el éxito cultural del edificio ícono y su resistencia disciplinar

Abstract
Los edificios icónicos resultan irresistibles para la cultura arquitectónica masiva, pero casi siempre la intelectualidad los aborrece. El autor de este artículo repasa sumariamente algunos antecedentes históricos que marcan la relación entre arquitectura e imagen para establecer el origen de la desconfianza de dichos grupos disciplinares hacia esta última. Destaca la importancia de la perspectiva en las preocupaciones proyectuales de los arquitectos y el uso ideológico de la fotografía arquitectónica a comienzos del siglo XX, cuando sirvió para difundir los principios del movimiento moderno. Finalmente, analiza el impacto de la imagen extravagante en una sociedad dominada por los medios masivos y llama a desconfiar de la fotografía de arquitectura porque las imágenes que produce están cargadas de mensajes ideologizados.
