Abstract
Florencia Rodríguez destaca el buen momento de la arquitectura latinoamericana y desarrolla algunas claves históricas que permiten comprender mejor el proceso actual. Advierte que la “arquitectura latinoamericana” no es más que la forma en que nos incorporamos a la narrativa de la historia occidental y que hoy tenemos la posibilidad de liberarnos de discursos inspirados en ideas foráneas.
Rodríguez sostiene que los latinoamericanos contamos con relaciones intelectuales que resultan más fértiles para entender nuestra propia experiencia arquitectónica que la mera proximidad espacial. Insiste en la necesidad de poner a prueba nuevas categorías de análisis que den cuenta de la dimensión local del trabajo de ciertos arquitectos, como Giancarlo Mazzanti o Solano Benítez.
Finalmente, revaloriza la estética como una necesidad social y rechaza la desconfianza que generan aquellas obras visualmente atractivas.
